Comprehensive Overview of the Cricut cartridge Once Upon a Princess

Geesh - it's been a while since I posted a comprehensive overview of a cricut cartridge.  It has been really difficult to find a big chunk of time where I can completely focus on a cartridge and all of its features.  Well today we will be looking at Once Upon a Princess which is quite a surprisingly loaded cartridge.  It was one of the first cartridges I purchased because I have a daughter who actually is a princess (at least at our house.)

In this post we will look at:
  • a Sample view of the cartridge images and brief summary of content
  • a list of the features offered on the cartridge
  • a Phrase Reference Sheet in PDF for download
  • a link to the PDF of the handbook
  • a spreadsheet with a list of the images, words and phrases with their pages numbers including a link to download the PDF version.
As you can see, There are a lot of different ways you can use the artwork on the cartridge.  There are several projects like the crown, the wand and the castle;  a few party elements like the gift bags and cards; loads of artwork including unicorns, butterflies, flowers and rainbows and a fun selection of paper dolls with all different types of costumes.

Each overlay key or handbook page includes:
  • the primary image
  • a layer
  • a phrase
  • a gem
  • a font
  • a tag
  • a base shadow/ phrase shadow
and each of these features (feature keys) have a shift option which provides additional artwork.

I really like the selection of phrases on this cartridge.  Each phrase has a layer which adds dimension plus it has a shadow under the "base shadow/ phrase shadow" feature button.  Below is a visual of all of the phrases available on this cartridge.
You can download a PDF copy of this Once Upon a Princess Reference Sheet by clicking the link below.  If you would like to share this information on your blog, instead of copy and pasting this info, please paste a link to my site:

The font on this cartridge has 2 versions.  The primary is a delicate cursive and the font with shift is encased in a crown which would be great for titles.

The tags are fabulous on this cartridge.  Each Tag feature has 2 different styles - the primary and the +shift.  The Gem feature seems limited in its applicability. I suspect it is primarily designed to use on cards.

Last but not least, here is a list of all of the images and phrases on this cartridge with their page numbers.  If you find any errors in the spreadsheet, please let me know so I can correct it. Comprehensive Overview of Cricut Cartridge, "Life's a Party"

Cricut has a whole line of Project and Events cartridges that offer specifically themed party decorations and elements.  What I love about the "Life's a Party" cartridge is that it offers a variety of different party themes, a nice selection of projects plus a font!  In this cartridge overview we will take a look at:
  • a sample view of the cartridge images
  • a list of the various themes this cartridge can work with
  • a look at all of the cards offered on the cartridge and a PDF reference sheet download
  • a look at the font and a PDF reference sheet download
  • a look at all of the phrases offered on the cartridge and a PDF reference sheet download
  • a look at all of the projects offered on the cartridge and a PDF reference sheet download
  • a look at a few handbook pages with photos of completed projects completely assembled
  • a link to the PDF of the handbook
  • a spreadsheet with a list of the images, words and phrases, cards and projects with their pages numbers including a link to download the PDF version.
Above is the sample sheet that is on the back of the cartridge box.  Below is a list of the various party themes included on this cartridge which include coordinating cards/ invitations, phrases, cupcake wrappers, scrapbook pages and 3-D projects.

Party themes includes:

  • Birthday/ celebration
  • Princess
  • Rock Star
  • Pirate
  • Outer Space
  • Zoo or Animals
  • Sports
  • Over the hill
  • Baby shower/ New baby
  • Bridal shower/ Wedding
First lets take a look at the cards included in this cartridge:

There are 5 cards for each theme which can be used for invitations, greetings and thank you notes.  I created a quick reference sheet so I can quickly look through my options when I need a card. You can download a PDF copy of the Life's A Party card reference sheet by clicking the link below.  If you would like to share this information on your blog, instead of copy and pasting this info, please paste a link to my site:

Next, lets take a look at the font that comes with the cartridge.  I use this font all the time.  I love its playful tone and weight. It is perfect for scrapbook page titles, cards and banners!

I have a hard time judging how a font will look as a word unless I see the letters next to one another so I created this Font Quick Reference Sheet. This cartridge also offers a category (creative feature) called phrases although many of the cuts in this category are images rather than words.

Believe it or not this cartridge also has a variety of projects including gift boxes, crowns, hats, glasses and scrapbook pages.

Comprehensive Overview of Cricut cartridge "Life is a Beach"

Today we are going to take a look at the cartridge "Life is a Beach."  While this cartridge is pretty subject specific, it is packed with lots of creative features.

Let's take a look at this page out of the handbook.  Along with the primary image (Hula Girl) you also get a font, a title, a border, a photo card, a square card and a charm.  Note that the font comes in both upper and lower case and the title is not layered which is unusual for Cricut words and phrases.

All of the primary images come with layers to create contrast and dimension.  In order to get a finished image that looks like the example above (in the left corner), you will need to cut the layer several times in various colors.  To duplicate their example of the Hula Girl, you would cut the hula girl in flesh color and then you would need to select the "layers" feature key and cut the layer 6 times in 6 different colors.  Tan for the hula skirt, brown for the hair, darker pink for the flower inside her hair, lighter pink for the inside of the flower in her hair and both red and yellow for the lei.  You can "hide contours" using Design Studio (click here to learn how with Design Studio), Gypsy (click here to learn how with Gypsy) or Cricut Craft Room (click here to learn how with CCR) to avoid cutting all of the layers over and over just to use a single cut out of the bunch. If you are lazy like me, you will cut all of the cuts in the layer 6 times and discard the leftovers.

The font is unique and definitely tropical.  Below you can see all of the upper case letters and numbers.

I have a hard time judging how a font will look as a word unless I see the letters next to one another so I created this Font Quick Reference Sheet. You can download a PDF copy of the Life is a Beach Font Reference Sheet by clicking the link below. You should print it in a horizontal orientation.  If you would like to share this information on your blog, instead of copy and pasting this info, please paste a link to my site:

Now lets look at the titles that come on this cartridge.  I copied and pasted the images from the digital handbook and the quality is HORRIBLE but at least you will get an idea of what you have to work with.
As I mentioned previously, none of these titles have layers which is so unusual for Cricut.  The same is true with the borders.  Unlike Give a Hoot's borders, these are flat images, but they are still a great feature!
To use an image as a border on a 12 x 12 layout, you wouldn't want to enlarge the image to 12 inches wide.  This would make the height way to big for a page border. In order to get a long border for larger pages like 12 x 12 paper, you can either cut multiples of the border image and line them up along the edge or you can use Design Studio, Gypsy or Cricut Craft Room to weld multiple copies of the border image together.  To learn more about welding with Design Studio, click here, welding with Gypsy, click here and welding with Cricut Craft Room, click here (these are all excellent youtube video tutorials.)

To download a pdf of this border quick reference sheet click of the link below.  When you print it out, set your orientation to landscape.  If you would like to share this information on your blog, instead of copy and pasting this info, please paste a link to my site.

The remaining creative features on this cartridge include a photo card, a square card and a charm.  The charm and square card are self explanatory but I was stumped about the photo card so I posted an inquiry on the Cricut message board which was promptly answered.
The photo card is just like a photo folder where there is a window that frames the picture.  I made one using the umbrella graphic (see photo below).  In the center of the card there is an individual umbrella to layer on top of the one welded to the card.  Therefore, in order to get two different colors, I had to cut out the Photo Card twice.
I glued the yellow umbrella to the turquoise card and vise versa.  I have to say I was annoyed that cricut doesn't cut a dotted line (pseudo score line) indicating where to score and to fold the card.  I thoughtlessly tried to fold the card corner to corner which caused the cardstock to buckle.
The Life is a Beach page in the Cricut shop has a lot of  good information about this cartridge.  They have many more views of the content then you usually find on the Cricut website, so you should definitely take a look if you have any more questions.

Last but not least, here is a list of all of the images and phrases on this cartridge with their page numbers.  If you find any errors in the spreadsheet, please let me know so I can correct them. Comprehsive overview of Cricut Imagine Cartridge Country Carnival

Today we are going to get to know the Cricut Imagine cartridge "Country Carnival"!  Country Carnival is one of the two fonts in the Imagine Collection.  Below is the Sample they print on the back of the box which shows a portion, but not everything, you get on this versatile cartridge.  So let's take a closer look:

To begin with; below I have provided a better look at all of the patterns/paper you are able to print or use as a fill, from this cartridge.
Sometimes it is difficult to appreciate the papers because in the marketing materials, they are cascading on top of one another and the images are small.  The samples above are not superb as I pulled them from the handbook PDF, but at least you can see that there are 2 newspaper print patters and a gorgeous red pattern that would be great to fill a mat or boarder.

For those of you who do not work with an Imagine, one of its many awesome features is that you can fill images from regular cartridges with patterns you get on your Imagine cartridges.  For example, I  selected the phrase "Read" and its shadow from Kate's ABC's:
First I selected the shadow image, then I clicked on the edit button (Imagine feature) and filled the shadow with the newspaper print with red flowers pattern.  Next, I selected the word "Read" (by adding the shift button)  then I clicked on the edit button (Imagine feature) and filled the shadow with the red pattern.  I hit print and cut and this is what Imagine gave me:

I apologize for the photo quality.  I used my phone to take these photos. Yuck!

Alright, alright...enough with the Imagine Ra, Ra Ra!  Sometimes I get carried away. Back to the Country Fair cartridge.  In addition to the font which we will discuss in a moment, you also get a few icons and some bonus materials.  Lets take a look at the icons first:

I could see printing/ cutting the butterfly 2 or 3 times; layering the copies and adhering them together down the center only.  Bend the wings inward a little and you have a dimensional vintage butterfly to put on a card.
Next lets look at the mats on the cartridge.
You could print/ cut these frames small and use them as journalling blocks, medium for photo mats or large to layer on a 12 x 12 layouts.
Below are the four bonus projects included on this cartridge:
And now, the font.  It is so much fun!  I love the shadows and the opportunity to use multiple colors on each letter.

You can download a PDF copy of a Country Carnival font quick reference sheet below:

.
If you take a look at a page from the handbook, you will see that there are 5 "complete letter" layers and 2 accent layers.  You have the option of printing and cutting the first letter -i.e. the completed letter as a flat image or, all the layers and stack them to make a dimensional letter.

You may also elect to just use one or two of the layers for a simpler look.  You can also turn off the print feature so the machine only cuts, and then use some of your patterned paper for the fill design..

In the front of the handbook, Cricut shows some sample designs that were done with the cartridge:
I am in love with the Family book.  It is too stinkin cute!

There aren't a whole lot of images to put into an image table of contents with page numbers (there aren't any phrases on the cartridge), but I did one anyhow.  If you find any errors in the spreadsheet, please let me know so I can correct it. If you would like to share this information on your blog, instead of copy and pasting this info, please paste a link to my site.
